There is always a great deal of speculation ahead of Apple product announcements and releases, and the Autumn 2021 event was no exception. Apple certainly didn’t disappoint their fans, as they announced a whole raft of new products – no less than 4 iPhone 13 variants, a new Apple Watch (Series 7), and 2 new iPads – one full-sized and one Mini version. This event was unusual in that it was held virtually due to the ongoing covid restrictions in force at the time. Titled ‘California Streaming’ and streamed from an otherwise empty venue in Cupertino, about 2 million people tuned in worldwide via YouTube to witness the launch of the latest products.

The 2021 10.2-inch iPad, the 9^th generation of this popular tablet, was the lowest-cost version produced to date. Simply called ‘iPad’ this version had received the Apple A13 Bionic chip, enabling 20% faster processing speeds than its predecessor, plus increased storage (starting at 64GB and rising to 256GB) at a comparable price. The increased popularity of virtual meetings and video calls was also taken into account in the changes to the 2021 iPad. The front camera was a much-improved 12MP version, fitted with a wider-angle lens (122-degree field of view), enabling more people to appear in-shot and great for group gatherings.

Available in the same range of colours as the previous model, the 9th Generation iPad had a black bezel, and was compatible with Smart Keyboard, 1^st Gen Apple Pencil and had a Smart Connector for other attachments. It was available to buy from September 24^th 2021.
