In March 2019, the iPad Air 3rd Gen (or iPad Air 2019) was launched, along with the iPad Mini 5th Gen – the latest version of the smaller format iPad. The iPad Air 3 was a direct replacement for the 2nd generation of iPad Air, the iPad Air 2. Similar in appearance to the 2nd Gen model, the 3rd Gen iPad Air was equipped with an improved 10.5” Retina Display (similar to that on the iPad Pro), the Apple A12 Bionic chip and Bluetooth 5.0. It also came with a choice of 64 GB or 256 GB storage, and supported the 1st Generation Apple Pencil.

Fitted with a laminated screen and True Tone display, the iPad Air 3 LCD was able to adapt to suit ambient lighting conditions, changing the intensity and colour of the image to suit the environment in which it was used. The improved CPU speed was seen as a real plus in this iPad model – in fact, the 3rd Gen was said to operate up to three times faster than the 2nd Gen. In addition, the battery life showed a real improvement over its predecessor, with up to ten hours available, and there was an upgraded front camera – the same 7 MP version that was first used in the iPhone 7.
