September 2015 saw both the launch and release (on the same day) of the iPad Mini 4. At the same time, the larger iPad Pro was also released. The iPad Mini 4 was the fourth generation of the small format Apple tablet, replacing the iPad Mini 4. There were several differences between the Mini 4 and the Mini 4, the most obvious being that the new release was slimmer and lighter, and also slightly wider in the body and taller (although the display size and resolution remained the same as before). This slight change in format meant that the protective cases designed to fit all the previous Mini models would not fit the iPad Mini 4, so Apple released a new Smart Cover at the same time.

One of the unseen improvements within the Mini 4 was the inclusion of 2GB of RAM, as opposed to the 1GB of previous models, plus the dual-core A8 processor. Most of the other features of the Mini 4 were similar to those offered by the iPad Air 2, including Touch ID with Apple Pay (within app) capability, and the Retina Display with anti-reflective coating that delivered much improved colour accuracy and picture quality.
