The details of the third generation of the Apple iPad Pro, consisting of two models with different sized screens, were made public in October 2018. The launch of the iPad Pro 3rd Gen 11” along with a 12.9” version, took place in New York at a special event. At this event, it was revealed that both the new iPad Pro models would have the Apple 12X processor, up to 1 TB of storage, and be equipped with a fabulous edge-to-edge Liquid Retina display. The iPad Pro 3rd Gen 11” directly replaced the iPad Pro 2nd Gen 10.5”, which was subsequently taken out of production.

Among the changes from the 2nd Gen to the 3rd Gen of the iPad Pro were the removal of the physical Home button, which had now become a virtual button embedded within the edge-to-edge screen. In addition, an advanced version of Face ID was installed to replace Touch ID – this version of Face ID was able to operate in landscape and portrait modes, and was actually more advanced than that available in the iPhone models in production at the time. Both iPad Pro 3rd Gen models were fitted with the latest Apple A12X Bionic processor, and a tap-to-wake LCD display – this display was originally only available on later version iPhones such as iPhone X, and demonstrated yet another first for the versatile and accomplished iPad Pro.
