iPhone 13 Pro Max

Apple announced the iPhone 13 Pro Max and the iPhone 13 Pro as their new flagship products at their September 14th ‘Special Event’ in 2021. This was a virtual event, streamed from Apple Park, Cupertino in California, and was notable for not only being broadcast from an empty auditorium, but also for getting a worldwide audience on YouTube of an estimated 2 million Apple enthusiasts. These Apple fans were able to enjoy the spectacle of the new products being revealed while sitting in the comfort and safety of their homes and offices, rather than having to mingle within the venue during the ongoing pandemic. Two other new iPhones, the 13 and the 13 Mini were also on show, along with a new iPad, an iPad Mini and a new Apple Watch. All the products were made available for sale on September 24th, apart from Apple Watch Gen 7, which was to be made available somewhat later.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max was the direct replacement for the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and had been subject to many improvements, including a better battery life (the 13 Pro Max battery life was a whole 2.5 hours longer than the 12), in large part due to the inclusion of the new, fast and power-efficient A15 Bionic processor. Use of this new processor also offered a maximum of 50% faster graphics performance, compared to Apple’s nearest competitor.

Apple also claimed that the advanced triple camera combination on both the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max was their best ever, as it included a 3x optical zoom, wide-angle lens, and a first for any iPhone, an ultra-wide-angle capability. Not only that, but the new design had managed to reduce the size of the ‘notch’ on the selfie camera by around 20%, making these iPhone Pro models look more elegant than had been achieved previously. A host of new and exciting photography modes including cinematic, ProRes and computational photography were also incorporated to delight the photography enthusiasts.

With a 1 TB storage option being made available in this latest upgrade, the new flagship iPhone 13 Pro Max, with its totally re-designed interior, offered the serious photographer a great tool to enable them to store masses of high-quality photos and lengthy videos. In addition to the internal re-workings, the two new Pro models were also now produced in a new case colour, Sierra Blue, which replaced the previous shade of Pacific Blue.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max is a superb phone for anyone wanting ultra-fast graphics (thanks to the A15 Bionic chip), a superb triple camera system and a brilliant display (the 6.7” Super-Retina XDR). With a longer than ever battery life, and enhanced outdoor brightness, this is the ideal companion for all types of outdoor activities. It’s even water resistant to a large extent, but bear in mind that it’s still a piece of high-technology equipment, wrapped in glass and metal, and not indestructible.
