iPhone 13 Pro

The Apple iPhone 13 Pro, along with the iPhone 13 Pro Max, were the new flagship phones made public at Apple’s 14th September 20201 ‘Special Event’ which was held at Apple Park in Cupertino (California). These two flagship phones were unveiled alongside two other new iPhones, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, plus an iPad and iPad mini, and the Generation 7 Apple Watch. The iPhones and iPads were available for sale on 24th September 2021, and Apple Watch was slated for sale later on. In line with covid restrictions, the event was recorded in an empty auditorium and streamed on YouTube to an estimated audience of 2 million people.

The iPhone 13 Pro was notable for an improvement to its battery life, boasting an extra 1.5 hours over its predecessor, the iPhone 12 Pro, mainly due to the more power efficient and faster A15 Bionic processor. This processor was also claimed to offer up to 50% faster performance on graphics in comparison to the leading competitor. Both new iPhone 13 Pro models were also made available in a new colour – Sierra Blue, which replaced the Pacific Blue of previous models.

A new triple camera set-up was also incorporated, including an optical zoom (3x), wide-angle lens and an ultra-wide-angle lens, which was a first for any iPhone. Along with the better cameras came the option for ‘cinematic mode’ and ‘ProRes’ video capability, plus computational photography. Commentators at the time also noted that the new camera set-up enabled the notorious selfie camera ‘notch’ to be reduced in size, being 20% smaller than that achieved on other ‘Pro’ iPhones.

According to Apple, the internal workings of the iPhone 13 Pro (and the iPhone 13 Pro Max) have been ‘completely re-designed’. The availability of the 1 TB storage version makes this iPhone particularly attractive to users who wish to take full advantage of the advances in camera technology, and to shoot long videos.

If you are a keen photographer, or you are looking for fast graphics capabilities and a great display, the iPhone 13 Pro with its fast Apple A15 Bionic chip, 6.1-inch Super Retina HDR display, improved battery life and triple camera set-up could be just the iPhone for you. However, like all smartphones, the iPhone 13 Pro is essentially a computer that you can carry in your purse or pocket, and as such is a delicate piece of high-technology equipment. It may have IP68 water resistance, but it’s not immune to damage.

If you find that your iPhone 13 Pro is not working to its full capability, unless it is still within the manufacturer’s warranty period (which provides some cover, but can’t be relied on for all eventualities), you will need the help of an Apple repair expert.
