Launched in September 2013 alongside the iPhone 5c, the iPhone 5s was the seventh generation of this ever-popular smartphone series. Externally, the 5s looked very similar to the older iPhone 5, apart from a change to a round Home button and a new set of colour variations, but the main differences were internal. The internal workings of the iPhone 5s were a major improvement on previous models, being faster and more powerful. As well as shipping with iOS 7, this phone was the first to contain a 64-bit processor alongside an M7 motion co-processor, and was fitted with an improved camera.

Another innovation which was brought life in the iPhone 5s launch was Touch ID – a fingerprint identification system which was commonplace in future models, and which allows the user to carry out a number of tasks such as unlock the phone, shop in the App and iTunes Stores or use Apple Pay based on a single touch. The iPhone 5s also had the new Control Center for rapid access to commonly used functions, and AirDrop which allows quick and simple file sharing. The iPhone 5s was shipped complete with a set of EarPods, and accessories such as cases and a dock were available.
