In September 2018, the iPhone XR was announced as the successor to the iPhones 8 and 8 Plus, along with two higher-priced models, the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max. All the latest phones in the iPhone X range were fitted with the Apple A12 Bionic chip, an incredibly fast processor, which enabled faster Face ID. The iPhone XR was also fitted with a large (6.06”) ‘Liquid Retina’ display for amazing resolution and accurate colours. However, the feature of the iPhone XR that got people talking the most was the camera, which came complete with the ability to alter depth of field and produce artistically blurred backgrounds and sharp foregrounds, something that was not readily achievable with a standard smartphone camera.

The iPhone XR was remarkable in other ways too – it was available in a wide colour range, including coral pink, blue and yellow which combined with a black front were unusual and striking colours for a phone. The XR was also reputed to have a 25-hour talk-time, beating the iPhone 8 by 1.5 hours, and the battery was able to make use of fast charging technology, making this iPhone’s battery-life incredibly long-lasting. Complete with IP67 dust and water-resistance, the iPhone XR was the best-selling of all the 2018-released models.
