iMac Pro

About

Announced in June 2017 and released in December that year, the iMac family of all-in-one desktop computers gained an impressive new member – the iMac Pro. Apple marketed this version of the iMac as ‘the most powerful Mac ever made’, and they were right. With the earlier iMac, the lowest model in the range had a 4-core processor, or at extra cost, you could go to a 6-core, with the maximum being an 8-core Intel Core i5. On the other hand, the iMac Pro came ready-equipped with 8, 10, 14 or 16-core Intel Xeon W processors – seriously powerful workstation-class chips.

With a massive 32 GB of RAM, and fast SSD (solid state drive) storage, the iMac Pro was principally aimed at users who needed a very high performance and excellent quality graphics capability – people such as designers, game developers, animators and graphic artists. The internal workings of the iMac Pro were impressive enough, but the external appearance was noteworthy too. The enclosure of the iMac Pro was similar to the iMac in that it was a clean-looking and sleek glass and aluminium unibody, but the iMac was exclusively available in Space Grey rather than the standard silver of the iMac models. As with all iMacs, being an all-in-one design, the iMac Pro contributes to a reduction in workspace clutter, and looks strikingly cool and elegant on a modern desk.
