Launched in November 2013, the iPad Mini 2 was the second of the smaller format iPads. The iPad Mini 2 followed on from and looked very similar to the original iPad Mini, apart from being fitted with a lighter Space Grey rear cover rather than the darker Slate colour. This new version of the iPad had the same sized screen as the iPad Mini – 7.9” – but the Mini 2 boasted a Retina display, with the same screen resolution as the iPad Air (a full-sized iPad). The relative size difference with the same resolution actually meant that the iPad Mini 2 had an even more pixel-dense screen than the iPad Air.

Another difference between the original iPad Mini and the new iPad Mini 2 was the inclusion of the Apple A7 chip, which was yet another parallel with the iPad Air. In effect, the iPad Mini 2 was a reduced-size iPad Air, with all the technological advances but smaller, lighter and easier to handle. At launch, the iPad Mini 2 was hailed as an incredible step forward in tablet computing technology; enhancing the user experience in web browsing, gaming and general online activity, through a smaller handheld device.
